A chemical tank does not become leaky when it is just standing there, it happens when it is being filled, so when it cracks, a very large amount of chemicals comes out into the chemical room.
Tanks often crack in winter if you put cold chlorine into a tank that is in the technical room, this creates tension in the plastic, which can cause cracks
The Danish Working Environment Authority recommends replacing the tank every 5-6 years
